Ain Alak
Designed by ANGLESDIFFERING, this residential villa was conceptualized as a combination of
three independent volumes, each treated as a separate building, all connected through a public
placette.
The first block encloses the private areas with the family’s bedrooms and resting areas. The
second one is the reception area with living rooms and dining rooms. This area extends to a
patio with an outdoor garden and an infinity pool. The third block is used for the more technical
rooms of the house including the kitchen, the help’s living quarters and the garage.
The common area linking all three volumes is treated as a public placette, with glass elevations
from all sides. This allows you to identify each of the different volumes when standing inside of
the “placette”. This area encloses the vertical circulation (by means of stairs) and horizontal
circulation between every block of the house, thus highlighting the role of this section as a
placette.
The patio mentioned above penetrates the placette creating a pleasant view from the dining
room across the reception area. This also creates a glass passage from the dining room to the
reception area leading to the patio from one side, and to the outdoor garden from the second.
